Patrol Division Ranking Structure

Our PATROL DIVISION is one of our key program elements that tasks and coordinates most of our volunteers time and effort.  As the SAFETY of our Patroller volunteers is of paramount importance to us, our Patrol Division has a very clearly defined and structure to provide the appropriate level of training, supervision, support, and growth to all of our Patrol volunteers.

All Patroller volunteers begin at the TRAINEE level, and work their way up the ranks by taking additional training, passing additional certifications, and dedicating time and commitment to the Patrol overll.

We will describe the various Ranks below.

CHIEF OF PATROL

ELECTED POSITION

The Chief of Patrol (Chf.) rank is an elected position which is voted annually by the existing and current Chief level Patrollers.

Elections take place in April of each year. Only an existing Chief with at least 12 months of continuous service may be elected to this rank.

The Chief of Patrol is charged with the providing administrative direction to activities relating to the effective utilization of personnel, facilities and equipment. The Chief of Patrol coordinates with the Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief’s, and Assistant Deputy Chief’s to ensure our Patrols are conducted in a professional, competent, empathetic, effective, sensitive, and constitutionally sound manner.


ASSISTANT CHIEF OF PATROL

ELECTED POSITION

The Assistant Chief of Patrol (AChf.) rank is an elected position which is voted annually by the existing and current Chief level Patrollers.

Elections take place in April of each year. Only an existing Chief with at least 12 months of continuous service may be elected to this rank.

The Assistant Chief of Patrol is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the patrol and assisting the Chief of Patrol in developing and carrying out the vision for the Patrol. Work is performed in conjunction with and in assistance to the Chief of Patrol.  The Assistant Chief of Patrol coordinates with the  Chief, Deputy Chief’s, and Assistant Deputy Chief’s to ensure our Patrols are conducted in a professional, competent, empathetic, effective, sensitive, and constitutionally sound manner.


DEPUTY CHIEF OF PATROL

APPOINTED POSITION

The Deputy Chief of Patrol (DChf.) rank is an appointed position by a majority vote of the Chiefs of Patrol.

Each Deputy Chief of Patrol is assigned a particular area of responsibility and reports to the Assistant Chief of Patrol. Deputy Chief’s will normally have two Assistant Deputy Chief’s who assist them in accomplishing their duties and goals overall.


ASSISTANT DEPUTY CHIEF OF PATROL

APPOINTED POSITION

The Assistant Deputy Chief (ADChf.) of Patrol rank is appointed by a majority vote of the Chiefs of Patrol.

Assistant Deputy Chief’s of Patrol work in support of their designated Deputy Chief of Patrol whom they report to.


SENIOR PATROLLER

CERTIFIED POSITION

The Senior Patroller (SPtlr.) rank is a certified position which requires passing the Senior Patrollers training and examination course.

Patrol volunteers may seek advancement to Senior Patroller rank upon successful completion of a minimum of 6 months of continuous active patrol and must have a minimum of 6 Patrol Credits. Patrol volunteers must also receive the recommendation of one of the Chief’s of Patrol in order to be accepted to the Senior Patroller training and examination course.


PATROLLER

CERTIFIED POSITION

The Patroller (Ptlr.) rank is attained and certified formally upon successful completion of 4 (FOUR) supervised patrol credits and the recommendation of one of the Chief’s of Patrol who supervised at least one of the four patrols.

Patrollers have the ability to select their own patrol days and times, provided they can secure the support of at least 2 (TWO) other Patroller ranked volunteers.


TRAINEE PATROLLER

CERTIFIED POSITION

The Trainee Patroller (TPtlr.)  rank is assigned upon successful completion of the Patrol Volunteer Basic Training Class (PVBTC) and recommendation by one of the Chief’s of Patrol who led or attended the PVBTC.

Trainee Patrollers are required to patrol with more senior and experienced Patrollers for their first 4 (FOUR) patrol deployments. During these patrol deployments the Trainee Patroller will be assessed and supervised for consideration of advancement to full Patroller rank. This period also allows us to refine or redefine our CCOP rules, procedures, and protocols when necessary.
