CASTRO COMMUNITY ON PATROL, INCORPORATED

Castro Community On Patrol, Incorporated (Castro Patrol / CCOP) is a California registered, Federal IRS 501(c)(3) approved nonprofit corporation.

CCOP was initially created in 2006 following a series of well publicized sexual batteries of gay men in the neighborhood. The leather community galvanized and held a community meeting at Joe’s Barber Shop, then located on 19th Street in the Castro, to formulate a response and a volunteer walking safety patrol was established.  CCOP was initially formed as a program under the nonprofit San Francisco Safety Awareness For Everyone (SF-SAFE) which acted as our fiscal sponsor. This fiscal sponsorship relationship lasted from 2006 until SAFE was disbanded in early 2023 as the result of fraudulent use of government funding within the SAFE budget.

The dissolution of SAFE forced the CCOP program to formalize our independent program as a separate full Federal nonprofit which we completed in early 2024.
